Materials Sensitivity Testing and Effective Pain Relief

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to relieve pain and anxiety. It works with the body’s own pain control mechanisms, stimulating the release of endorphins which block the pain signals in the brain. It is so effective that we have some patients for whom acupuncture treatment is preferred instead of a local anesthetic. Many patients are comfortable with a local anesthetic and acupuncture used as an adjunct. For some, we will also use acupuncture in combination with nitrous oxide and/or oral sedation. We will treat your mouth considering the dental acupuncture relationships with your whole body for optimal health.

As a dental acupuncturist and holistic dentist, Dr. Lerner screens patients for sensitivity to materials in their teeth. Additionally, we also screen for potential sensitivity to materials we are considering using in their treatment. The simplest test is to screen with Applied Kinesiology on acupuncture points to determine if the body might respond adversely to the material.

When appropriate, we can also order blood tests such as a BioComp Screening for sensitivity to dental materials. This is similar to the Clifford Test, which is unavailable in NY state.
